Your Canucks actually won a road game, can you believe it?
Okay, so I know a lot of you probably hit the hay early last night, especially after how the Vancouver Canucks have been playing, but you missed a wild one in Anaheim! The Vancouver Canucks actually pulled off a 4-3 overtime win against the Ducks, and honestly, for a second there, I thought we were going to pull a classic Canucks move and blow it. C. Gauthier for the Ducks got them on the board first, and my heart just sank, right? But then C. Douglas, a guy who's been grinding, tied it up for the Vancouver Canucks, and J. DeBrusk netted a power play goal to put us ahead heading into the second. Then, in the third, things got truly chaotic. B. Boeser got a shorthanded goal – can you even imagine? – and I was thinking, "Okay, we're good, right?" Nope. The Ducks came roaring back with two quick ones from C. Gauthier and L. Carlsson, and suddenly it was tied again. My donut budget was already looking grim. But then, in overtime, M. Rossi with the power play goal! Relief, Vancouver, pure relief.
This win, even if it was against a Ducks team that's also kinda figuring things out, is a bit of a morale boost for the Vancouver Canucks. We’re still sitting 8th in the Pacific, 10th for the Wildcard, so the playoffs are definitely an uphill climb that would require a miracle on par with finding parking downtown on a Saturday. But after going 3-7-0 in our last ten, a win streak (yes, a single win counts as a streak when things are this rough!) is something. It shows that even when things get totally unglued, these guys can still find a way to finish. Looking ahead, it doesn't get easier, so these small victories, especially on the road, are what we’re going to have to cling to, like finding a spot on the Seawall on a sunny day.
So, for those of you waking up and checking your phones, maybe you can skip the double-shot espresso this morning because the Vancouver Canucks actually gave us something to smile about. It wasn't pretty, it was a total gong show at times, but hey, a win is a win, right? It's like finding a $20 bill in an old jacket — unexpected, but you'll take it.
Stay skookum, Vancouver.
