Cody Ray grew up in Madison, a working-class suburb just north of Nashville proper, on a street off Gallatin Pike where his family had season tickets to Oilers games when the team briefly played at Vanderbilt Stadium before Nissan was built. His dad, a third-generation Tennessean and pipefitter, drove the whole family down to the old Adelphia Coliseum — now Nissan Stadium — for the Music City Miracle game and replays it to anyone who will sit still long enough. Cody Ray studied communications at Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro and cut his teeth doing radio sideline reports for the Tennessee Titans pre-season on WKDF before landing a full-time beat job at The Tennessean.
