Tennessee Titans Free Agency Reaction — Nashville

Now look, I'm sitting here this morning, got my coffee from Bongo Java in Germantown, and I'm looking at this news about the Tennessee Titans. We just tendered Bryce Oliver as an exclusive rights free agent. Bless his heart, Bryce Oliver. I like the young man, really do. But when that's the big news coming out of free agency for the Tennessee Titans right now, it tells you a story, don't it? It tells you this ain't no "all-in" move, not by a long shot. This feels like what it is: a quiet, measured rebuild, trying to fill out the edges of the roster while we wait for what really matters. Nobody in Nashville is hollering in the streets about Bryce Oliver, bless his heart. Folks down on Broadway, they're probably more worried about finding a good honky-tonk than they are about our receiving corps right now. We're still 3-14, remember? The Music City Miracle feels a long, long way off when you're talking about exclusive rights tenders.

What does this tell me about the Tennessee Titans' direction? It tells me we're waiting for the draft, plain and simple. We're not making splashy moves, we're not spending big money to bring in those missing pieces. We're patching, we're mending, and we're hoping that whoever comes in through the draft can be the foundation. We still need so much, y'all. Our offensive line, it still gives me heartburn. We need more playmakers, folks who can move the chains consistently, make those big catches when it counts. We need a secondary that can shut down the passing game, not just hold on for dear life. My expectations for next season? Well, they ain't quite at "AFC Championship" levels yet, not with just Bryce Oliver on the books. This is a season where we gotta see significant growth from our young talent, a season where we gotta find out if we've got the right folks in the building to build something special, something that can one day stand tall like that 2000 team did.

Tennessee stands tall, boys. Cody Ray, signing off from Music City.
