Your Red Sox park is about to get wild
Look—you think you've seen it all at Fenway, right? The Curse gets broken, Big Papi walk-offs, even a few concerts that probably rattle the old brick too much. But get this: Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is comin' to town, and they're plannin' on throwin' down right there at our gah-damn ballpark on Yawkey Way, or whatever they're callin' it these days. August 29th, they say. I'm just sayin', that's a new one even for us. Dave Feldman, the BFKC honcho, apparently had his eyes set on Fenway the minute he got the license to operate in Mass. He knows where the real fight fans are, I guess.
Here's the thing: Fenway's seen its share of scraps, but usually it's after a couple of Sam Adams Lites in the bleachers, not a sanctioned event with actual bare knuckles. I mean, think about the history on that hallowed ground. Carlton Fisk wavin' one fair. Johnny Pesky holdin' the ball. Now we're gonna have fellas just wailin' on each other? It's wild. Part of me, the part that remembers watchin' hockey there in the winter, thinks it's a hell of a spectacle. The other part is wonderin' if they're gonna hose down the Green Monster between rounds. It's just... *Boston*, ain't it? We got the genteel side, the Hahvahd Square types, and then we got this.
What This Means for Boston:
* **A new kind of tradition:** Forget the peanuts and Cracker Jack, maybe it's just gonna be blood and guts. It's certainly a different kinda "fight night" than what we're used to, even with all the boxing history up in the Garden.
* **Fenway's versatility:** Proves the old gal can host anything. From concerts to hockey to bare-knuckle brawls, she's seen it all. Just add it to the list of "wicked weird things that have happened at Fenway."
* **A draw for the city:** People from all over New England, maybe even the country, are gonna trek into the city for this. Boylston Street's gonna be even more packed than usual. Just try to navigate the Kenmore Square area that night, I'm just sayin'.
It's a bizarre choice for a venue, but honestly, it feels right. Boston's got a raw edge to it, always has. From the Combat Zone back in the day to a couple of Bruins games in the 70s, we appreciate a good honest scrap. Just hope they don't break any of the old wooden seats. Wicked early, wicked real — that's how we do it from Dot to the Harbor.
