It feels like just yesterday we were talking about new spots, but the City of Winnipeg Business Licence Database shows 35 businesses across our city have closed in the last month. The hardest hit areas? Central St. Boniface and West Broadway, both seeing five closures each. It’s a real jolt to see those storefronts empty, especially in neighbourhoods that feel so central to our city's spirit, hey.
Looking at the numbers from the City's database, William Whyte and Norwood East also felt the pinch, with three closures each. It makes you wonder about the ripple effect through our communities. When a local shop closes, it’s not just about that business; it changes the whole street, the whole feeling of a place.
### What’s Popping Up Instead?
While some doors are closing, others are getting ready to open, or at least apply to. The Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba (LGCA) posted six new liquor license applications this week. It’s a mix of new ventures and perhaps some expansions.
