We've seen some pretty unusual activity today on the emergency front, hey? The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) dispatch records show a significant spike in emergency call volumes over the past few hours. We're looking at 30 to 33 calls per hour between 9 AM and 1 PM today, July 30, 2026. That's more than double the typical rate of around 15 calls an hour.
### What's Happening
This elevated call volume isn't isolated to one neighbourhood. We've also seen a cluster of 10 emergency calls in China Town within a four-hour window today. It’s hard to say right now what's driving this surge across the city. WFPS also responded to four structure fires that have since been resolved in Valley Gardens, Fort Richmond, St. James Industrial, and West Alexander, plus an active one in Wolseley in the Daniel McIntyre ward, reported at 1:09 PM. On top of that, there have been seven hazmat responses across the city today, including in Chalmers in the Elmwood - East Kildonan ward and Parc La Salle in St. Norbert - Seine River.
