Your City Hall just had a super secret meeting. What's up with that?

Your City Hall is pushing for more confidential meetings

Howdy Calgary, Cassidy Redcloud here, coming to you live from the MiTL Sports Desk, checking in on what’s brewing down at City Hall. For real though, we’ve got some interesting movements from the Strategic Meeting of Council back on March 10, 2026.

It looks like the folks on Council are really leaning into those closed-door sessions. We saw multiple motions that day related to confidentiality. Specifically, Councillor Dan McLean voted "Yes" and Councillor Jennifer Wyness also voted "Yes" on a motion to move into a Closed Meeting in the Council Boardroom. This was "pursuant to Section 29 (Advice from officials) of the Access to Information Act," according to the official council records. Then, Councillor Landon Johnston voted "No" on a motion to direct that Closed Meeting discussions be held confidential, but it still carried.

* Council held a Strategic Meeting on March 10, 2026. * Multiple motions to hold confidential discussions were introduced. * Councilor Dan McLean and Jennifer Wyness voted "Yes" to close the meeting. * The discussions were held confidential under Section 29 of the Access to Information Act.

Now, I get that some things need to be kept under wraps, but when multiple council members are pushing for more and more confidential attachments and discussions, it makes you wonder what’s so sensitive. This is Calgary—we’ve seen the boom, we’ve seen the bust, and we showed up anyway. Residents deserve to know what’s happening. Keep your eyes peeled for more on these behind-the-scenes discussions, because they’re definitely capping some conversations for us.
