Calgary, 24 permits were approved. What's hidden in Report C2026-0240?

Your City Hall is pushing things through, but what's *in* them?

Alright, Calgary, let's talk about what's been brewing down at City Hall, because our Civic Intelligence Monitor is showing some real quick movement on a few fronts.

This week alone, we’ve seen 24 commercial and new construction permits issued across the city, according to real-time data collected just this morning, March 27th, 2026, at 11:45:38 UTC. That’s a steady clip, for real though, showing things are still chugging along. The city's open for business, which is usually a good sign, right?

But what really caught my eye are these recent Council votes from March 10th. Most of 'em were "Strategic Meeting of Council" votes, and a couple of those motions carried even with "No" votes from Councillor Landon Johnston. Specifically, on Report C2026-0240, Council voted to adopt it after amendment, directing "Confidential Attachment 2 be held confid..." The full context of that confidential attachment isn't public, and that's the part that always makes me go, 'hold on a minute.' They also moved into a closed meeting to discuss "Advice from officials" pursuant to Section 29 of the Access to Information Act. When things get locked down like that, you gotta wonder what’s being pushed through without full public visibility. This is Calgary – we’ve seen the boom, we’ve seen the bust, and we showed up anyway. But transparency? That’s always something we gotta keep an eye on.

What’s next? We need to watch how these new permits shape up and see if any public details emerge from those confidential council discussions.
