Your City Hall approved 20 new permits this week.

Your City Hall is pushing big plans again

Alright Calgary, Cassidy Redcloud here, and we're looking at what's bubbling up from City Hall. For real though, the big news from our real-time monitor, updated today, April 5th, 2026, is the sheer volume of development permits. We're seeing 20 commercial/new construction permits issued in Calgary this week. That's a good clip, telling you the city's still growing, pushing outwards.

### What’s getting the green light

The Calgary Planning Commission has been busy, giving the thumbs up on several fronts. On March 12th, 2026, for example, votes on reports CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143 were both carried. Commissioners Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voted 'Yes' on those recommendations, which means Council is likely to give three readings to whatever those reports outline. It's all about moving that needle on new projects, keeping the city humming.

### Where the value is

And speaking of growth, the property assessment highlights are always a wild card. We're talking big numbers, right? Canada Olympic Park alone has 3 properties with an average assessed value of $56,093,333. Nose Hill Park isn't far behind with 7 properties averaging $40,863,286. Even Residual Ward 2, in sub-areas 2E and 2F, is seeing average assessed values of $28,060,556 and $25,577,500 respectively, for nine and eight properties. That tells you where some of the city's most valuable land is sitting, and it ain't all downtown. This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway. We'll be watching closely to see how these permits translate into actual construction and what it means for our city's skyline and neighbourhoods.
