Your city just issued 19 new building permits. Here's where.

New commercial permits might surprise you

Alright, Calgary, let's talk about what's bubbling up from City Hall this week. We're seeing some interesting movement on the development front, for real though. Our Civic Intelligence Monitor, last updated today, May 4th, 2026, at 12:23 PM, shows that the City of Calgary has issued 19 commercial and new construction permits this week. That's a solid number, especially when you consider what it means for our skyline and neighbourhoods.

A lot of these permits follow directly from decisions made back on March 12th, 2026, when the Calgary Planning Commission gave the green light on a few reports. Thom Mahler, Nathan Hawryluk, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voted 'Yes' on key recommendations, like those in Report CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143, which passed unanimously. This means projects that were just on paper a few months ago are now getting the go-ahead to start digging. It’s a good sign for a city that’s always looking to build.

* 19 commercial and new construction permits issued this week. * Calgary Planning Commission votes on March 12th, 2026, paved the way. * Commissioners Mahler, Hawryluk, Boechler, Wagner, and Hardwicke approved key reports.

On the property assessment side, it's always fascinating to see where the big money sits. Canada Olympic Park, for instance, has three properties with an average assessed value of $56,093,333. Nose Hill Park follows with seven properties averaging $40,863,286. These are our landmarks, but they also represent significant city assets. Keep an eye on how these new permits start to shape the city beyond our biggest parks. This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.
