Your city hall just fast-tracked two big projects.

Your City Hall team is pushing permits

Alright, Calgary, let's talk about what's actually moving through City Hall. You know, beyond all the chinook talk that had us thinking spring was here, only for February to remind us where we live. For real though, our Civic Intelligence Monitor, live as of 2026-05-06 at 12:34:19.321Z, shows a pretty steady hum on the development front.

The big takeaway from the latest data is that the Calgary Planning Commission has been busy. On March 12, 2026, they carried not one, but two separate motions. Reports CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143 both passed unanimously with "Yes" votes from Commissioners Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke. This means they're recommending Council give three readings to those proposals, which is usually the last step before approval. What exactly are these projects? That’s what we'll be drilling down into next, but it shows a clear push for development.

Permits are flowing

And it's not just talk. Our monitor indicates that 18 commercial/new construction permits were issued in Calgary this week. That's a solid number showing actual ground-breaking and new business activity. This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.

What this means for you, looking out at the Bow River, is that our city is definitely still growing and changing. Keep an eye on the upcoming Council meetings for those three readings.
