Your city just approved some big land moves

Alright folks, Cassidy Redcloud here, dropping in from the MiTL Sports Desk, Calgary bureau. Hope you're all caffeinated and ready, because City Hall just had a pretty busy Wednesday. Looks like the Calgary Planning Commission was busy pushing through some big land use changes.

For real though, those folks on the Planning Commission were working on March 12, recommending Council give three readings to some pretty significant reports. We're talking about CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143 here, and they both sailed through. Commissioners Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voted 'Yes' on these. It’s a unanimous decision from the Commission, which means these proposals are heading to City Council with a full head of steam.

This is a big deal because the Planning Commission handles the blueprints for how our city develops. These votes mean Council is being advised to greenlight some new development plans. We don't have the full details on what these reports specifically entail from this data, but the consistent 'yes' votes show a clear path forward for whatever land use changes are outlined in those documents.

What does this mean for us? Well, these are the steps that lay the groundwork for what our city will look like in the coming years. Keep an eye on City Council's agenda for when they tackle those three readings. That’s when the real rubber meets the road.

This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.
