Your city just pushed big projects forward. Did you notice?

Your City Hall is pushing big projects forward

How's it goin', Calgary? Cassidy Redcloud here, and we're looking at some big moves down at City Hall, specifically from the Calgary Planning Commission. They were busy on March 12th, passing some key motions that are going to shape how our city grows.

For real though, those folks on the Planning Commission approved a couple of big reports: CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143. What does that mean for you? Well, it means they're recommending that Council give three readings to these proposals. Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voted "Yes," and those motions were carried. We don't have the specifics of *what* those reports entail right here, but the fact they’re getting fast-tracked like this tells me these are significant land use or development decisions. This is how the blueprint for our city gets laid down, one vote at a time, and these are clearly moving ahead.

Now, let's talk brass tacks about property. The latest property assessment highlights show some pretty massive valuations across the city. Canada Olympic Park, for instance, has two properties averaging out at $84,140,000. And Nose Hill Park? Seven properties there are averaging $40,863,286. Even Symons Valley Ranch, with its single property, is sitting at an assessed value of $20,650,000. These aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet; these are major public assets and significant private holdings that drive our tax base and define parts of our landscape.

This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway. Keep an eye on those Council meetings when these reports come up for their three readings. That's when we'll see the full scope of what the Planning Commission just put in motion.
