Another Dallas Cowboys move just landed, and I'm telling you, it’s got me scratching my head like a long-horn trying to reach an itch it just can’t get to. Now listen, the news that the Dallas Cowboys re-signed Corey Ballentine, our corner, well... it’s a move that certainly happened. Ballentine, God bless him, he’s a solid special teams guy, maybe a depth piece on defense. But when you look at a 7-9-1 season, a squad that gave up 511 points, and you see *this* as the big free agency splash... it just feels like we’re patching a bullet hole with a band-aid down here in Dallas. Are we rebuilding? Are we going all-in? This feels more like we're just filling holes with whatever's handy, and that ain't gonna get us past the Wild Card curse.
Fans, bless their hearts, are either trying to find the silver lining the size of a Texas mosquito, or they're just plain frustrated. I was just down at Pecan Lodge, and the talk there wasn’t about how Ballentine’s gonna lock down a receiver, it was about where the real help is. We need a running back who can actually run through a tackle, not bounce it outside for a loss. We need another receiver who can take the top off a defense and give Dak some breathing room. And for the love of all that is holy, we still need a defensive tackle who can stop the run and push the pocket. Right now, this roster feels like it's built for another December collapse, not a deep playoff run.
My expectations for next season? Now, I always go into September with my heart on my sleeve, believing this is the year, I really do. But these moves, or lack thereof, they just deflate some of that hope, like a tire on a gravel road. It makes me wonder if Jerry's truly committed to bringing a championship back to North Texas or if we're just content being "America's Team" without the hardware. We gotta get some playmakers, fellas, before we can even dream of a parade down Commerce Street.
Star up, Dallas — we ride.
