Your library board just got a new shortlist of names.

Your library board is getting some new blood

Alright, so the Community and Public Services Committee had themselves a meeting on March 16, 2026. Mostly standard stuff, really. Agenda adoption, then a quick dive into some private reports – because what’s a city hall meeting without a bit of closed-door discussion, eh? Apparently, those conversations were pursuant to sections 20 and 29 of the *Access to Information Act*, which is a fancy way of saying they were talking about things that might get a bit personal, or getting advice from officials.

Honestly though, the most public-facing action from that day was the approval of new shortlists for two crucial civic bodies.

* **Edmonton Public Library Board:** The committee approved a recommended shortlist for the Library Board, as outlined in report OCC033387. This is for the folks who keep our city's literary heart beating, ensuring places like the Stanley A. Milner branch continue to be, well, controversial design choices aside, vital community hubs. * **Edmonton Combative Sports Commission:** They also revised and approved a shortlist for the Combative Sports Commission. So, if you're into local boxing or MMA events, know that new leadership is on the horizon.

The vote for both these approvals was carried 4 to 0, with E. Rutherford, J. Wright, K. Principe, and J. Morgan all voting yes. It’s good to see some fresh perspectives coming into these roles. Keep an eye out for when these new members are officially appointed and what direction they might take these important organizations.
