Your City Hall keeps going private. What's item 2.1?

Your City Hall is meeting, mostly in private

Good morning, Edmonton. Darren Fedoruk here, trying to find some sun in this March grey, which I’m told is just a precursor to the *next* round of snow. You know, character-building.

City Hall’s Agenda Review Committee met on March 24, 2026, and their records show a consistent 4-0 vote to adopt their agenda, approve minutes, and then, rather quickly, transition from meeting in public to meeting in private. All four members present – A. Knack, A. Stevenson, E. Rutherford, and J. Wright – voted yes to close the discussion of item 2.1 to the public, citing section 29 (advice from officials) of the *Access to Information Act*.

* Agenda Review Committee Votes: * Adopted agenda: 4-0 * Approved minutes: 4-0 * Met in public: 4-0 * Met in private for item 2.1: 4-0 * Amended draft agendas: 4-0

Honestly though, it's not unusual for committees to move certain items in camera, as they say. But when every single substantive motion leads to a private discussion, it does make you wonder what’s being so thoroughly discussed out of the public eye. It reminds me of those long, quiet stretches in a hockey game, where you know something important is happening, but you can’t quite see the puck.

Meanwhile, Councillor Stevenson received a gift valued at $120 from the Edmonton International Airport in late 2025, according to the gift registry. It’s a small detail, but it’s there. On the expense front, Councillors Clarke and Elliott both expensed over $800 each for accommodation at the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention in Calgary, with Councillor Elliott also claiming an additional $348 for food and incidentals. Something to chew on.

Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
