Your councillors are already spending big on a Calgary trip

You won't believe what our councillors are spending on

It's March already, and the spring thaw feels like it's taking its sweet time, much like some of our city council meetings, honestly though. The latest data from City Hall shows a pretty consistent pattern in council's Agenda Review Committee. On March 31, 2026, Councillors Knack, Stevenson, and Wright were unanimous across the board, voting 3-0 on every motion, from adopting the agenda to approving minutes. This included motions to meet both publicly and privately for discussions, which, you know, keeps things interesting. It's like watching the Oilers power play sometimes; you know they're going to score, but the setup is half the show.

But let's talk about expenses. Some councillors are already racking up tabs for the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention in Calgary. Councillor Clarke, for example, dropped $825.88 on accommodation and another $685.00 for registration. Councillor Elliott matched Clarke's accommodation expense at $825.88 and added $348.00 for food and incidentals. That's a decent chunk of change for a convention. It's almost enough to buy a season's worth of tickets in the upper bowl at Rogers Place.

What to watch for: We'll see if these early convention expenses set a trend for the rest of the year, especially with other councillors’ totals still undisclosed.

Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
