Clarke and Elliott billed how much for a Calgary hotel?

Your Councillors' Travel Bills Are In

Alright, let's talk about the bottom line, which, if you're like most Edmontonians, is where your eyes tend to land first. The latest City Hall data shows us a glimpse into where some of your council members are spending their allocated funds, specifically for professional development.

Councillor Clarke and Councillor Elliott each expensed $825.88 for accommodation at the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention in Calgary, held from November 12-14, 2025. Councillor Clarke also recorded a $685.00 registration fee for the same event. Councillor Elliott had an additional $348.00 listed for food and incidentals. These are the kinds of numbers that tend to catch the eye when we're all, you know, figuring out how to pay for groceries on the north side. Anne Stevenson, meanwhile, declared a gift of $120 from the Edmonton International Airport on November 24, 2025, according to the Gifts to Council Members registry.

Honestly though, it’s not exactly a surprise that councillors attend these conventions. It’s part of the gig. The question, I suppose, is always about the value proposition for the taxpayer. What comes back to our city from these trips? Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.

What to watch for: We'll see if the insights gained from the convention translate into new policies or initiatives for Edmonton residents in the coming months.
