Your Councillors Are Booking 2025 Calgary Convention Rooms Now

Your Councillors are Spending on Convention, and it's Almost April

Good morning, Edmonton. Darren Fedoruk here, trying to recall when the last time the sun felt like a warm embrace rather than just a bright suggestion. You know, like a painting of warmth.

City Hall data reveals some interesting patterns, particularly around how our elected officials are preparing for future events. According to the city's council expense records, Councillor Erin Rutherford and Councillor Anne Stevenson are already booking their spots and accommodations for the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention in Calgary, scheduled for November 12-14, 2025. Councillor Rutherford expensed $825.88 for accommodation and $685.00 for registration. Councillor Stevenson also recorded an $825.88 expense for accommodation, alongside an additional $348.00 for food and incidentals. This is, you know, planning ahead. It's almost April 2026. This isn't breaking news, but it's the kind of meticulous, almost pre-emptive, expense reporting that suggests a certain… foresight.

When we look at gifts to council members, Ward papastew Councillor Anne Stevenson declared a gift of $120 from the Edmonton International Airport on November 24, 2025. Councillors Aaron Paquette and Andrew Knack declared "0" for gifts in 2025. It's the kind of detail that makes you think, isn't it?

The Agenda Review Committee held a meeting on April 14, 2026, with all motions, including the adoption of the agenda and approval of minutes, passing 2 to 0 with A. Stevenson and J. Wright voting yes. They also decided to meet in private pursuant to section 29 of the *Access to Information Act* for item 2.1 before moving back into public session. Some things, I suppose, are best discussed behind closed doors.

Honestly though, it's these little financial breadcrumbs that can sometimes tell you more about the practicalities of governing than all the grand pronouncements. We'll keep an eye on what tangible outcomes these convention attendances bring back to the River City.

Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
