Your city hall just had a secret meeting you can't know about.

Your City Hall agenda might be a bit… secret?

It was a pretty quiet week over at City Hall, honestly. The April 14, 2026 Agenda Review Committee met, and, well, they approved the minutes and adopted the agenda. All of that was carried 2-0, with Councillors A. Stevenson and J. Wright voting in favour of everything. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where that wouldn’t happen, I suppose.

The wrinkle here, if you want to call it that, is that two motions were passed specifically to move into private session, and then back into public session, for the discussion of "item 2.1" on the Agenda Review Committee List. This happened under section 29 of the *Access to Information Act*, which is for "advice from officials." What was discussed in private? Not for us to know, apparently.

What this means for us is that even the agenda for future meetings can have its own little secrets, little moments of quiet deliberation that happen behind closed doors before the main show. Edmonton doesn’t need your approval. Never did.

Honestly though, it’s not unusual for committees to go in-camera for certain discussions, especially those involving legal advice or personnel. We’ll be watching to see if "item 2.1" or any of its implications pop up in future public discussions.
