Your City Hall just closed the doors on a 4-0 vote.

Your City Hall is taking a meeting behind closed doors.

There's a persistent rumour that Edmonton is just a collection of oil derricks and perpetually snowy roads, which is, of course, utterly incorrect. We have the Oilers, for one. And a performing arts scene that punches well above its weight class. But sometimes City Hall just leans into the stereotype of being a bit... opaque.

This past Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during an Agenda Review Committee meeting, Councillor K. Tang moved that the committee "meet in private pursuant to section 29 (advice from officials) of the *Access to Information Act* for the discussion of item 2.1." This motion carried 4 to 0, with Councillors A. Knack, A. Stevenson, J. Wright, and K. Tang all voting in favour.

What exactly was discussed behind closed doors? * The publicly available minutes don't say. * Item 2.1 remains a mystery for now. * The *Access to Information Act* allows for privacy on matters like legal advice or personnel issues.

Honestly though, it's not entirely unheard of for committees to go in-camera. It just means we'll have to wait to see what comes out on the other side. This isn't the Oilers revealing their playoff strategy, but it's still about how your city runs.
