Your council just approved big stuff with no debate. What gives?

Your City Hall is approving things faster than you can blink

Council’s Executive Committee moved through their May 13, 2026, meeting agenda with what you might call, a certain alacrity. All motions — the Adoption of Agenda, Approval of Minutes, the Vote on Reports not Selected for Debate, Requests to Speak, and the Annual Delegation of Authority for 2025 — passed unanimously, 5 to 0. Councillor A. Knack, A. Salvador, K. Tang, T. Parmar, and M. Elliott were all on board for these decisions, according to the official voting records.

Now, among those reports approved without debate were some interesting ones.

* The results of the Alberta Avenue Arts Development Expression of Interest * Tax Forgiveness Options for Covenant Health * City of Edmonton… (the rest of that one is redacted in the data, which is always… something).

It feels like a lot of decisions are getting bundled and passed without much public discussion. Which, you know, makes you wonder what’s in those redacted sections sometimes. Honestly though, this kind of efficiency can be good, but you want to make sure the public knows what’s going on in the background.

Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
