Your Edmonton City Hall is meeting in private again
Well, another day, another glance at what’s happening down at City Hall, where the City Manager and City Auditor Performance Evaluation Committee met on May 19, 2026. According to the motions, they voted to adopt their agenda (3-0, naturally), approved minutes from earlier meetings (another 3-0), and then, with barely a pause, decided to move into a private session.
Councillor Principe initially moved to meet in public, but that was immediately followed by Councillor Parmar moving to meet in private, which carried 3-0. This was “pursuant to sections 20 (disclosure harmful to personal privacy) and 29 (advice from officials) of the *Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act*.” You know, standard operating procedure. It means they talked about the City Auditor Annual Performance Review Update #1 (2026) behind closed doors.

Honestly though, it’s not exactly a shocker to see these kinds of discussions happen in private. It's just a reminder that while the River Valley is open to all, some parts of civic life remain… exclusive. Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
