Your auditor review will stay behind closed doors
Well, you can always count on City Hall for a bit of a dance, can't you? This week, the City Manager and City Auditor Performance Evaluation Committee had a few things on their plate, primarily focusing on the City Auditor's annual review. According to the motions passed on May 19, 2026, Councillors Knack, Principe, and Parmar were all in agreement, voting 3-0 on every item.
The interesting bit, at least to me, is the swift pivot on transparency. Councillor K. Principe initially moved to have the "City Auditor Annual Performance Review Update #1 (2026)" meet in public. A commendable thought, one might say. But then, almost immediately, Councillor T. Parmar moved to take the discussion private, citing sections 20 (disclosure harmful to personal privacy) and 29 (advice from officials) of the *Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act*. Both motions passed 3-0. It's a bit like offering you a coffee and then immediately taking it back, isn't it?

Honestly though, it always makes you wonder what conversations are truly off-limits to the people who pay the bills. Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did. We’ll just keep an eye on what eventually trickles out about this auditor review.
