Your Council is Unified, For Now
Edmonton City Council had a busy, if harmonious, day on July 7, 2026. Every single motion brought forward passed with a unanimous 13-0 vote. Seriously, thirteen to zero. It's like they're all reading the same script, or perhaps they're just getting through the procedural stuff before the real debates kick in. Councillor K. Tang and T. Parmar were particularly active, moving several of the motions that sailed through. Honestly though, it's rare to see such widespread agreement, even on things like adopting the agenda or approving minutes. It makes you wonder what they're saving the fireworks for.
Speaking of things that make you wonder, the latest disclosures show a couple of interesting gift declarations. Councillor Andrew Knack received $390 from BILD Edmonton on February 18, 2026, and Councillor Anne Stevenson took in $397 from BILD Edmonton metro on March 11, 2026. According to the disclosures, Councillor Aaron Paquette reported zero gifts, which is... efficient, I suppose. It's always good to keep an eye on who's giving what, even if it's just a few hundred dollars. These things tend to accumulate, like snow in January.

The continued unanimous voting suggests a council that’s either incredibly aligned or delaying significant contention. We’ll have to see if this trend holds when they dive deeper into the 2025-2029 City Council Priorities, which are scheduled for discussion on July 8.
