Montreal Canadiens Game Recap: MTL 1, CAR 6

What the heck happened to our Montreal Canadiens last night?

Alright, let's just get this over with, tabarnac. If you woke up this morning near the Plateau thinking you'd dodged a bullet by going to bed early, I'm here to tell you, you didn't. Our Montreal Canadiens got absolutely shelled on the road by the Carolina Hurricanes, a 6-1 drubbing that felt even worse than the score suggests. Trevor Hall got things started for Carolina less than ten minutes into the first, then L. Stankoven and E. Robinson piled on before the period was even over. Three goals in the first period, *trois*! We barely had time to blink. It was a complete defensive breakdown, à l'extérieur.

The Hurricanes kept coming in the second, with J. Blake adding another, and then Sebastian Gostisbehere made it 5-0 on the power play. Our poor Habs, they looked lost out there. Cole Caufield finally got us on the board in the third, sur le power play, with a nice setup from Lane Hutson – a little spark, sure, but way too late. Then Sebastian Jarvis rubbed salt in the wound late in the third. Twenty-four shots to their thirty, that's not terrible, but when the puck finds the back of your net six times, it doesn't matter much. It was a gut-punch, a bad night at the office, plain and simple.

* **First Period Disaster:** Three quick goals for Carolina set the tone. * **Power Play Struggles:** We only converted once, while Carolina capitalized on theirs. * **Caufield's Consolation:** A lone power-play goal from Caufield saved us from the shutout.

Look, one loss doesn't erase a 48-24-10 record, and we're still third in the Atlantic, but you can feel the air a little heavier this morning, even down by the Lachine Canal. Our seven-game winning streak is snapped, and that stings. We need to regroup, find that defensive structure again, especially with the playoffs getting closer. We can't afford these kinds of performances. This team has more heart than what we saw last night.

Allez Les Canadiens — Go Habs Go. This is Amélie Boisvert.

My buddy Pascal and the gang are tearing this game apart right now, you gotta hear it at mornings.live.
