Winnipeg Jets Game Recap: ANA 4, WPG 1

Well, good morning, Jets fans, if you can even *call* it that after last night, eh? I barely slept a wink, just staring at the ceiling, replaying those second-period goals in my head. A brutal 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, right here at home. We outshot them something crazy, 35 to 13, but what good is that when the puck just won’t go in, fer sher? After Morgan Barron got us on the board at 5:04 of the second, with a nice feed from Salomonsson and Perfetti, I thought, "Okay, here we go, we're gonna start rolling." But then, just over a minute later, Washe tied it up for Anaheim, and before you could even blink, Poehling put them ahead. And then Killorn added another one. Three goals against us in under two minutes, eh? It felt like the air just went right out of the building. And then an empty-netter from LaCombe in the third just twisted the knife. Brutal.

Honestly, it just felt like one of those nights where the puck had eyes for everyone *but* our net, you know? The guys were trying, you could see the effort, especially with the shot count. But a few unlucky bounces, some critical defensive lapses right after we scored, and a goalie who just couldn't seem to get a grip on it, and that was it. It's frustrating, because we know this team has more in the tank. We know what they *can* do. This wasn't the kind of game you expect from a team fighting for a playoff spot, especially not at home. The silence in the arena after those quick goals, man, it was deafening. Just when you think you’ve got a handle on things, eh?

So, what does this mean? We're now sitting at 26-27-10, 62 points, still sixth in the Central and hanging on to the Wildcard spot, for now. We were 5-2-3 in our last ten coming into this, so this loss just feels like such a step backward, eh? We need to shake this off, and fast. The playoff race is tighter than a drum, and every point counts. This isn't the kind of performance we can afford if we want to get into the dance. The mood in the Peg this morning? It's deflated, fer sher. People woke up hoping to see good news, not a reminder of a home loss to a team we really should have beaten. It’s hard to swallow, but we’re Winnipeg, eh? We’ll dust ourselves off and get ready for the next one.

Go Jets Go — from the Peg, this is Kate Fehr.
