Your new Ward 1 home just cost over $2 million.

That new home in Ward 1 is a big deal for your wallet

Alright, listen up, because the real story is never on the Hill – it’s always just off it. We've got some interesting numbers coming out of City Hall today, and if you’re thinking of buying or building in Ottawa, or even just wondering where all your tax dollars are going, you'll want to pay attention.

The latest building permits issued by the city show a pretty significant investment in new residential construction. Specifically, Permit #BP 9NEW 24-5505, for a new two-storey detached dwelling with a finished basement and walkout at 865 Aviation Road in Ward 1, clocks in at a hefty $2,066,986. That's a serious chunk of change for one residential build. For context, we also saw a commercial interior alteration for Tim Hortons at 780 Bancroft Drive in Ward 11 for $84,619, and an industrial alteration at 5900 Keaton Crescent in Ward 5 for $1,556,164. The full details are available through the city’s permit records.

What does this mean for you, mon ami? Well, it tells us that even with all the talk about affordability, high-value residential projects are still moving forward. Keep an eye on the development applications too – like the proposed residential apartment building at 1970 and 1980 Fowler Drive in Ward 8, currently "Application in Process." These big builds affect everything from traffic flow to the price of your own place.
