A Cumberland house just got a $2.1M permit. Guess what that means.

Your new house in Cumberland is a big investment

Bonjour Ottawa, good morning. Simone Okafor-Bouchard here, reporting for the Morning Wire. The real story is never on the Hill — it's always just off it. And off the Hill, City Hall has been busy rubber-stamping some big projects.

According to new building permit data, a new two-storey detached dwelling with a finished basement and walkout is going up at 865 Aviation Road in Ward 1. This isn't just a shed; the permit, BP 9NEW 24-5505, is valued at $2,066,986. That's a significant investment in our residential landscape, pushing two million dollars for one home. It’s a good example of how much housing costs in Ottawa, even outside the central core.

Meanwhile, over in Ward 3, commercial interior alterations are underway at 4701 Tahoe Boulevard, permit BP 3ALT 26-804, valued at $568,320. And yes, a Tim Hortons in Ward 11 at 780 Bancroft Drive is getting a recladding to its drive-thru window (permit BP 3ALT 26-430, $84,619). Because, of course, the drive-thru must be perfectly reclad. You know how important that is for your double-double. We’ll be watching to see how these developments impact local infrastructure and daily commutes, especially with that new almost $2.1 million dollar home.
