Ottawa's getting 90 km/h winds and tents are going up.

Your commute might be a bit wild today

Bonjour Ottawa. Simone Okafor-Bouchard here, and I'm looking at our live intelligence feeds this morning, and it seems like Environment Canada has issued a special weather advisory for our region. We're expecting some pretty strong winds to gust up to 90 km/h later this afternoon and into the evening.

This isn't just a breezy day, mes amis. These kinds of winds can cause power outages, and for those of you with older trees near your houses, ça peut être un peu risqué. Hydro Ottawa usually preps for this, but if you're out near the Greenbelt, things could get really blustery. It’s a good day to secure anything loose in your yard and maybe charge your devices, just in case.

On the development front, City Hall has been busy, issuing several building permits. One that caught my eye:

* The Bani Hashi Society at 900 Eglinton Avenue East in Ward 3 received permits for two separate sets of five temporary tents. Each permit, BP 3TEN 26-406 and BP 3TEN 26-407, is valued at $6,500. One set of tents is for June 16 to June 27, 2026, and the other for July 26 to August 6, 2026. This shows a long-term planning perspective, which is very Ottawa, non? * Also, in Ward 5, Spectra Confectionery at 6650 Pacific Circle got a $50,180 permit for fire alarm, sprinkler, and emergency lighting alterations. Always good to see industrial safety upgrades.

The real story is never on the Hill — it's always just off it.

Stay safe out there today, everyone.

The morning crew on mornings.live will be tracking these wind gusts all day, check it out.
