Your city hall approved a new triple home on Queen Street West
Bonjour, Ottawa! Simone Okafor-Bouchard here, giving you the real deal on what’s happening just off the Hill, right in our own backyard.
This week, a permit that really stands out is the new build coming to 13 Queen Street West. City Hall issued a permit for a brand new two-storey detached dwelling, but get this—it’s going to have *three* units inside. We're talking a cool $1,381,160 investment in Ward 1, according to the latest building permit data. This isn't just a regular house; it's a triplex, a definite nod to the city’s push for more diverse housing options. You know, trying to make a dent in that housing crunch everyone is always talking about, or at least trying to.
The permits also showed some interesting commercial activity:
* **Sunbelt Film & TV** on Cantay Road in Ward 5 is adding new washrooms, a modest $60,465 upgrade. Even film sets need proper facilities, *n’est-ce pas*? * Another residential permit, BP 3ALT 25-9699, will convert an existing guest suite into a full residential suite at 2770 Aquitaine Ave in Ward 9 for $48,750. Smart use of existing space, if you ask me.
On the development front, Ward 8 is looking at a new residential apartment building application at 1970 and 1980 Fowler Drive. This is a big one to watch, as these large-scale residential projects truly shape our neighbourhoods. Will it be another glass tower or something with a bit more… *character*? We’ll see how it moves through the application process.
The real story is never on the Hill — it’s always just off it.
