Your City Hall is really talking about home and the river.
Good morning, Peterborough. Marcus Otonabee-Singh here on the Morning Wire. It’s been a week where the flow of civic life felt deeply tied to the land and our homes.
Here's the thing about Peterborough: sometimes the biggest currents aren't the ones you see on the surface. This past week at City Hall, the conversations have really flowed around the idea of 'home' – what it means to have one, and how we ensure everyone in our community does. There's been a lot of talk about the housing crisis, how it’s damming up the lives of so many of our neighbours, and what practical steps the city can take to ease that pressure.
The other strong current? Our relationship with the land and the water. The spring storms we’ve seen, the ones that make the Otonabee River swell, they've prompted discussions about our infrastructure and our preparedness. It’s a reminder that we live within a dynamic ecosystem, and we have responsibilities to it, and to each other, to navigate those changes thoughtfully.
This is the Electric City — small town, big current. Let's go.
