Your City Hall just can't stop talking about finding a home
Good morning, Peterborough. Marcus Otonabee-Singh here on the Morning Wire, flowing to you from the Electric City.
Here's the thing about Peterborough: the currents of conversation at City Hall this past week have really been about two big things – where we live and our relationship with the Nishnaabeg Gichigami, the great water, our beloved Otonabee River. It’s a familiar rhythm here, a constant hum beneath the surface of civic life.
### Housing and the River
The focus on housing felt particularly strong. We’ve seen a consistent push to address the urgent need for more homes in our community.
* Discussions continued around zoning changes to allow for denser, more varied housing types. * There was talk about leveraging provincial funding to accelerate new builds. * The conversation also drifted to supporting initiatives for affordable and supportive housing, recognizing that a home isn't just four walls, but a foundation for life.
It's all part of that larger current, you know? How we build our community, how we ensure everyone has a place to lay their head, and how we do it all while respecting the ancient flow of this land and river that cradles us. This is the Electric City — small town, big current. Let's go.
