Pittsburgh, you wanted one thing and we got another
Alright, yinz. From the Strip District, where the Terrible Towels were already flying before the sun was even up, it’s draft reaction time. People were saying, "Brianna, they gotta get an offensive lineman, gotta get a center, get a wideout!" And then the Pittsburgh Steelers went out and drafted Troy Fautanu, an offensive tackle from Washington, with the first pick. Now, you know me, I like a good ol' bruiser, someone who can protect the quarterback, whoever that quarterback ends up being. But I gotta say, the chatter 'round Primanti Brothers on the North Shore was a little... confused. We needed a center, and they went tackle. Don't get me wrong, Fautanu looks like a tough kid, a real Pittsburgh-style player, but it felt like a slight miscalculation of what we *really* needed.
The mood in Pittsburgh is a mix, I ain't gonna lie. Some folks are excited about the potential of a versatile offensive lineman like Fautanu, thinking about protecting Russell Wilson or Justin Fields. Others, especially after seeing the rest of the draft, are still scratching their heads about not addressing the center position early. Getting Zach Frazier in the second round, that felt right, that felt like what Pittsburgh needed. And Roman Wilson at wide receiver, he's got speed, he's got hands, that's a good pick. But the overall feeling isn't euphoric. It's more like, "Okay, we'll see." I'm not furious, but I'm not jumping for joy either. This class feels… *potential-filled*.
