Did you stay up late for that Seattle Kraken win?
What a rollercoaster in Tampa Bay last night! The Seattle Kraken pulled off a gritty 4-3 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and if you fell asleep after the second period, you missed a wild finish. It was one of those games where you felt the momentum swinging back and forth like a ferry crossing Elliott Bay in choppy waters. We saw some brilliant individual efforts, especially from Brandon Montour, who opened the scoring for the Seattle Kraken in the first period and then sealed the deal with the overtime winner.
The game was a back-and-forth affair from the jump. Montour got us on the board, but the Lightning answered quickly. Then Kailer Kakko and Brandon McMann stacked two more for the Seattle Kraken, pushing us to a 3-1 lead. But Tampa Bay, they're a veteran team, and they clawed their way back, with Jake Guentzel and Corey Perry (on the power play) tying it up in the second. That’s where it stayed through a tense third period, forcing overtime. Then, just 2:47 into the extra frame, Shane Wright and Brad Catton set up Montour again for the beautiful game-winner. It was beautiful, honestly.
This win is huge for the Seattle Kraken, bringing our record to 32-29-10 (74 points) and, crucially, keeping us in the mix for a Wildcard spot, currently sitting at #4. Our last ten games haven't been pretty, so breaking that streak with a W, especially on the road, is a massive morale boost and a testament to the team's resilience. With the standings so tight, every point counts. This morning, there’s a little more bounce in the step of folks grabbing their coffee in Capitol Hill, knowing the boys brought home a win from across the country.
