Your Seattle Kraken fell apart in the second period
Waking up this morning, it feels like a bit of a gray, drizzly day in Seattle, and not just because of the liquid sunshine outside. The Seattle Kraken lost to the Mammoth last night, 6-2, at home. It started so promising, with Jordan Eberle lighting the lamp just 41 seconds into the first period, followed by Brandon McMann extending the lead. We were up 2-0 and Climate Pledge Arena was absolutely buzzing. But then the Mammoth found their stride. Logan Cooley got one back on the power play in the first, and that's when things really started to shift.
The second period was where the wheels came off for the Seattle Kraken. Cooley scored again, followed by Nick Schmaltz on another power play, giving the Mammoth a 3-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish. It felt like every mistake was magnified, and the momentum just completely evaporated. The third period saw the Mammoth pile on three more, with Jack Peterka, Dylan Guenther, and Michael Carcone (on yet another power play) all finding the net. The Kraken’s 31 shots to the Mammoth’s 27 don’t tell the story of how dominant the Mammoth felt for large stretches, especially when our penalty kill couldn’t hold.
* **Period 1:** Jordan Eberle (SEA), Brandon McMann (SEA), Logan Cooley (UTA, PP) * **Period 2:** Logan Cooley (UTA), Nick Schmaltz (UTA, PP) * **Period 3:** Jack Peterka (UTA), Dylan Guenther (UTA), Michael Carcone (UTA, PP)
This loss stings, especially at home. It drops the Seattle Kraken to 32-31-11 with 75 points, putting us further behind in the wild card race. With only a handful of games left, these are the moments that truly define a season. We needed to grab these points, and walking away with none makes the road ahead feel like an uphill climb, steeper than even Queen Anne Hill. We have to regroup quickly and find that early-season grit if we want to build something real for this franchise and this city.
