Your birthday in St. John's doesn't have to be alone, b'y
Whaddya at, b'y — this is St. John's, oldest city in North America, and we're still here. Let's go.
I'll tell ya one thing, b'y, you never know what you're gonna find on the internet, do ya? And sometimes, it's just the purest, most St. John's thing you could ever imagine. I was scrollin' through the Reddit, right, just seeing what kinda chatter was out dere. And tucked between weather reports and a picture of a sunrise, dere it was: someone, a 32-year-old woman, here for a short visit, solo traveling, lookin' for friends to grab a bite or a drink wit'. And get dis — it's her birthday on Saturday, and she doesn't want to eat alone!
Now, you might think, "Deirdre, why's dat da big story wit' all da gas prices and da politicians and da university cuts?" And I'll tell ya why, b'y. Because dat's St. John's. Dat's da heart of dis place. We're a city where you can walk down Water Street, the oldest commercial street in North America, and feel like you're part of somethin' bigger, but still run into five people you know. Dat's da kind of place where someone puts out a call like dat, and you just know, *know*, someone's gonna step up. Dat's da spirit of George Street on a Friday night, just in digital form.
### The Real St. John's Spirit
* **Community First:** It shows our inherent kindness. We might be a capital city, but we still have that small-town, outport mentality where you look out for each other. * **The Welcome Mat is Out:** It's a testament to how welcoming Newfoundlanders are to strangers, especially those who come here to experience our beautiful city. * **George Street's Digital Twin:** It captures that feeling of walking into a pub on George Street, even if you're alone, and knowing you'll find company and a bit of craic before the night is over.
I’ll tell ya one thing, b'y, if you're ever lookin' for a bit of camaraderie, a good laugh, or just someone to share a plate of Ches's fish and chips with, you won't be alone for long in St. John's. We might not want the whole world to find out about our little secret, but if you're here, you're family.
