You just signed Diabate and I'm looking for more
Now look, it's a slow burn for the Tennessee Titans in free agency right now, ain't it? We just signed linebacker Mohamoud Diabate, and bless his heart, he’s got talent. A good young player, sure. But if you’re pulling up to Bongo Java in Germantown expecting fireworks like we saw back in the Music City Miracle days, you're gonna be staring at a pretty quiet cup of coffee. This Diabate move tells me they’re not going all-in like some folks are hollering for on Broadway, but they ain't exactly tearing it all down either. It feels more like filling out the edges of a quilt that still needs a whole lot of patching in the middle.
Folks around Nashville, the ones still wearing their old Derrick Henry jerseys like me, they're not exactly throwing block parties over Diabate. We need some big swings, boys. We need a receiver who can stretch the field and a cornerback who can lock down his side. You know what I’m talking about, someone who can make a difference right away and not just be a depth piece. We're still looking at a roster that's got some real holes, especially with our division being what it is. I'm telling you, they need to target another edge rusher, someone who can get to the quarterback and take some pressure off the secondary.
This Diabate signing, it doesn't really change my expectations much for next season. We went 3-14 last year, remember? We need more than a few good pieces; we need a whole new vision if we're gonna get back to where Kevin Byard had us, playing meaningful December football. My hopes are still high for the draft, but free agency needs to deliver more before I start thinking we’re climbing out of the AFC South cellar.
Tennessee stands tall, boys. Cody Ray, signing off from Music City.
