Your Utah Mammoth fought hard but fell in overtime
Oh my heck, what a game last night against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Utah Mammoth battled back from a deficit in the third period, only to lose 5-4 in double overtime on the road. For anyone who tucked in early, the team showed incredible resilience after giving up two quick goals in the second period to fall behind. J. Marino got us on the board in the first, then L. Crouse and D. Guenther rallied us in the second and third. M. Carcone tied it up with under eight minutes to go in regulation, giving us all hope, but P. Dorofeyev completed his hat trick for Vegas with just 53 seconds left in the third. It was a heartbreaker, and then B. Howden sealed it in double overtime. Our goalie really stood on his head, facing 38 shots.
The back-and-forth was wild; it felt like a playoff game already. Vegas had their moments, especially on the power play, but our guys dug deep. C. Keller had two assists, showing up big for us. The Utah Mammoth had more shots on goal than the Golden Knights, 38 to 36, and really pushed the pace. We saw some incredible plays, especially that tying goal from M. Carcone off the rush. It really felt like we were going to pull it off, even after P. Dorofeyev got that late goal in the third. You just have to tip your hat to the effort.
This loss means the Utah Mammoth stay put at 43-33-6, good for 92 points and the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. We're 6-4 in our last ten, which is solid, but that L next to our name stings a bit, especially against Vegas. Every point matters right now, and while it was a tough loss, securing that one point for going to overtime is huge. We can't let this one get us down! We've got a couple of days before we're back on home ice at the Delta Center, and I know Salt Lake City will be ready to cheer them on. We'll be looking up at the Wasatch Range from the stands, ready to reset.
Tusks up, Utah. We're just getting started.
