Your West End apartment building might get taller
Let's talk about the West End. You know, that part of the city where the trees are old, the buildings are… also old, and the air always feels a little different from the rest of Vancouver. Council just voted on a pretty significant rezoning that could change the face of a block there.
On March 12th, during a Public Hearing, Mayor Ken Sim and Councillors Mike Klassen, Peter Meiszner, Lisa Zhou, and Rebecca Bligh all voted in favour of a CD-1 Rezoning for 2028-2038 Barclay Street. This means that a proposal to potentially build something denser, something taller, on that particular stretch of Barclay has cleared a major hurdle. For those who live in the neighbourhood, or just enjoy walking through it, this is a significant step toward a different kind of streetscape. It’s about how we use the space, how many people we fit in, and what kind of city we’re building.
