Your City Hall just approved more West End towers.

Your City Hall just okayed more towers in the West End.

It was a pretty quiet week at Vancouver City Hall, but one item from the March 12th public hearing jumped out, especially for anyone who walks the cherry blossom-lined streets of the West End.

The council voted to approve the CD-1 Rezoning for 2028-2038 Barclay Street. That’s five 'in favour' votes, according to the official council records, with Mayor K. Sim, and Councillors M. Klassen, P. Meiszner, L. Zhou, and R. Bligh all giving it the green light.

* **Project:** CD-1 Rezoning for 2028-2038 Barclay Street * **Location:** West End, Vancouver * **Vote Date:** March 12, 2026 * **Outcome:** Carried (Approved)

This decision continues the trend of densification in an already dense neighbourhood. If you've walked along the seawall near English Bay lately, you've seen the cranes. This specific rezoning suggests more changes are coming to that stretch of Barclay, which, if you know the area, is still home to some of those older, slightly more affordable rental buildings.

It’s another step in the slow, continuous transformation of the West End. You have to wonder what kind of *omiyage* (souvenir) future residents will bring to the city.

Beautiful out here. Complicated in here. That's the coast.
