Your city hall is knocking down homes for what
Alright, Vancouver. The rain's holding off, a nice clear view of the mountains from my usual spot near Kits Beach. But down in the city, things are always a bit…murkier. We got some demolition permits issued, which isn't exactly groundbreaking news, but the pattern here, it makes you pause.
On June 11th, the city issued permits to demolish two single-detached houses on East 41st Avenue: 2231 E 41st Avenue, built in 1961, and 2241 E 41st Avenue, built in 1950. Both permits, DB-2026-01402 and DB-2026-01403, are for $45,000 each. It’s not uncommon to see older homes taken down for new builds, especially in this market. But when two adjacent homes, built in a similar era, come down at the same time? It certainly sparks a question about what’s next for that stretch of the street. Is this for a larger development, or just two separate owners with the same idea?
Beautiful out here. Complicated in here. That's the coast.
