Your Victoria summer just got a little sweeter
Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine.
Well, here's the thing about summer on the island: it always feels like there's a new treat just around the corner. And it seems City Hall agrees. Looking at the latest business licenses issued, it appears we're getting more mobile ice cream. Hazels Ice Cream Ltd. just snagged two new bicycle vendor licenses (numbers 40784 and 40447, for those keeping track). What does this mean for you? More chances to grab a cone while wandering through Beacon Hill Park or along the Inner Harbour, I suppose.
### What Else Is New?
It's not just about the sweet stuff, of course. Here's a quick look at other recent activity:
* **New Vet Clinic:** A new Downtown Veterinary Clinic is setting up shop at 736 Caledonia Ave (License #22734). Good news for our furry friends in the city centre. * **Arcade Fun:** Arcadia, an amusement centre, is opening at 707 Johnson St (License #48095). A spot for a bit of playful diversion, perhaps. * **Basement Suites:** On the building permit front, we're seeing continued investment in housing. Permit #EP083395 shows an electrical permit for $8,200 to remove existing basement wiring and wire in a new basement suite, complete with a bathroom, storage rooms, two bedrooms, a new kitchen area, and baseboard heating. This is a common way for homeowners to add density and often, rental units, to our neighbourhoods.
It's clear that while some things remain wonderfully constant here in Victoria – like the deer grazing without a care – the city is always quietly evolving, one business license and building permit at a time. Keep an eye out for those ice cream bikes; they're usually a welcome sight when the sun is shining.
