Your ice cream is on a bike, Victoria
Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine.
Well, here's the thing. While the chatter from the Canadian Real Estate Association's "REAL TIME" podcast might be about community and accessibility in 2025, down here in Victoria, we're seeing some very immediate, very tangible community building happening. And it involves ice cream.
The City of Victoria's recent business licence list, updated with new permits, shows two separate new licences issued to HAZELS ICE CREAM LTD. Both are for "BICYCLE VENDOR" operations, both at "BUSINESS - MOBILE" in Victoria, BC, V8W 1P6. Licence #40784 and Licence #40447, to be exact. This means Hazel's Ice Cream will be pedaling through our streets, bringing chilly treats right to your park bench or seaside stroll.
It's a small detail, but it speaks to the evolving pulse of the city. We're seeing more mobile businesses, more micro-entrepreneurs finding ways to connect directly with residents outside of traditional storefronts. This isn't just about dessert; it's about how we activate our public spaces and support local, nimble ventures.
Beyond the sweet treats, there's also a new "Arcadia" amusement centre at 707 Johnson Street, Licence #48095, which suggests a renewed focus on entertainment downtown. It's fascinating how these small business movements reflect the city's overall mood, isn't it? What kind of ice cream will Hazel's be serving, one wonders? Only time, and a well-placed bicycle, will tell.
