Three fires in Weston last night. What's going on?

Weston Had Three Fires Last Night, You Guys

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

We’re starting with some urgent news from the Weston neighbourhood this morning, hey. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) dispatch records show three separate structure fires were reported in Weston in the early hours of May 2, 2026. The first call came in at 2:51:03 AM (incident 2026065946), with units 22, D10, D75, E10, E102, E17, E5, GATOR91, L1, R5, and S5 responding. That incident was resolved by 4:56:02 AM.

Just seconds later, two more structure fires were reported at 2:51:40 AM (incident 2026065947) and 2:52:06 AM (incident 2026065948). Both of those were resolved quickly, by 2:53:59 AM and 2:53:58 AM respectively. All three incidents occurred within the Point Douglas ward. It’s pretty unusual to see that many reports in such a short window in the same neighbourhood, hey.

### What Else is Happening?

On the development front, City of Winnipeg permit data from April 29-30, 2026, shows a new gas kiosk is approved for CTM Design Services at 500 Oak Point Highway in Point Douglas. Meanwhile, ten demolition permits were issued across the city, including:

* 491 Burrows Avenue in William Whyte (Mynarski ward) * 510 Regent Avenue W in Melrose (Transcona ward) * 606 Oak Street in Central River Heights (River Heights - Fort Garry ward)

This week, 16 new housing units were permitted across 35 projects city-wide, according to development trend data. Keep an eye on those demolition sites; often, new builds follow quickly, shaping our neighbourhoods.
