We've got a couple of things to watch out for if you're heading out today, especially if you're navigating the city centre. Our real-time monitors flagged an early morning structure fire in West Alexander, incident 2026119892. WFPS dispatch records show it was reported at 3:09 AM on July 29th, and fortunately, it was resolved quickly by 3:11 AM in the Point Douglas ward.
### Transit Trouble and Road Closures
But the bigger story for your day-to-day commute might be on the roads and with Winnipeg Transit, hey. The top complaint to 311 today, with four calls in the last 24 hours, is "Primary Transit Network Inquiries." That's a lot of folks asking questions or running into issues with our main bus routes.
And if you're driving, be prepared for some detours:
* **Portage Avenue East** has daytime closures this week, as announced by the city on July 27th. * The **west side ramps at Concordia and Lagimodiere** are also closing for pavement repairs, starting Monday, July 27th. * A portion of **Garry Street** closed on Saturday, July 24th.
This means a lot of the usual routes, especially around the core, are going to be a bit of a maze. Keep an eye on those bus schedules and road signs, because getting across town might take a little longer than usual. Let's hope those transit inquiries help smooth things out, hey.
