Your North End had 2 fires in minutes. What's happening?

Your North End is burning, hey?

Good morning, Winnipeg. It's Rosie Fontaine on the Morning Wire, and we've got some heavy news from the overnight hours. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was really busy, with five structure fires reported across the city. Two of those were right in the North End, in the Spence neighbourhood, within minutes of each other.

Here's what the real-time civic intelligence monitor shows: * Incident 2026074746 in Spence was reported at 3:14 AM on May 17, 2026, and resolved by 3:17 AM. This one didn't list units, which can sometimes mean it was a quick knockdown. * Just a minute earlier, at 3:13 AM, incident 2026074745, also in Spence, had a full WFPS response with units like E102, L1, and R5 on scene. That fire wasn't resolved until 5:35 AM. * There was also a fire in Centennial (Ward Point Douglas) at 4:44 AM that took until almost 7 AM to resolve, and another in King Edward (Ward St. James) around the same time.

That's a lot of heat, literally, for our emergency services to handle in one morning. It always makes you wonder what's going on, doesn't it? Our crews are doing incredible work keeping us safe, hey.

Rosie Fontaine, MiTL Sports Desk, Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

We're talking about how our first responders deal with this intensity all the time on the morning show — tune in at mornings.live.
