What happened in Norwood East at 4:20 AM?

A Hazmat in Norwood East and a fire in Spence, hey.

Good morning, Winnipeg. Rosie Fontaine here, keeping an eye on our city this morning. We’ve got some recent emergency activity to tell you about, according to our real-time monitors.

### Hazmat and Fire Overnight

First up, a hazmat response happened in Norwood East overnight at 4:20 AM, with units D3, E3, E4, L13, and R4 on scene. This was a Fire Rescue – Hazmat incident, according to the civic intelligence monitor, incident number 2026122300, in the St. Boniface ward.

Before that, a structure fire was reported in Spence, in the Daniel McIntyre ward, at 1:53 AM. WFPS dispatch records show units D3, E101, E102, L1, and R5 responded to incident 2026122260. That fire was resolved just after 2:07 AM. Always good to see our crews on the ball, hey.

### Demolitions Across the City

Now, for what’s happening with our built environment. The city issued six demolition permits yesterday and the day before. Carpenter Enterprises Ltd. got two of them: one for 114 Mutchmor Close in Valley Gardens (Elmwood - East Kildonan ward), and another for 147 Southmoor Road in Niakwa Place (St. Boniface ward). Urban Ridge Homes got a permit for 120 Lindsay Street in Wellington Crescent (River Heights - Fort Garry ward) on July 30th. It looks like some parts of our city are getting ready for new beginnings. We’ll be watching to see what rises in their place, hey.

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
