Your Ducks got roughed up last night, it stings
Okay, so I know a lot of you probably clicked off after the first period, and honestly, who could blame you? It was a rough one at home for the Anaheim Ducks against the Vegas Golden Knights, a 6-2 final that just felt… heavy. Vegas came out swinging, I mean, Shea Theodore scored like a minute into the game, and then Brayden McNabb got a shorthanded goal – a *shorthanded* goal – which just totally zapped the energy out of Honda Center. And then Mark Marner, oh my gosh, he just kept piling it on, getting a hat trick before the second period even ended. It felt like every time we blinked, the puck was in the net again.
The Ducks really struggled to find their footing early on. Shots were 28-33, which isn't terrible, but the quality just wasn't there when we needed it. It was nice to see some life in the third period, with Brett Sennecke getting one past the goalie off assists from Adam Killorn and Mikael Granlund, and then Chris Kreider from Trevor Terry and Leo Carlsson. Those moments gave us a little something to cheer for, but by then, the mountain was just too high to climb. It's frustrating because the Anaheim Ducks have been on a bit of a roll, winning their last game, but this felt like a step back after making some progress.
Waking up this morning in Anaheim, it's a little quieter than I like after a home game loss. We're still sitting 3rd in the Pacific, which is good, but our last 10 games are 2-6-2. We need to find that consistency again. It’s like when you hit all the green lights on the 5 Freeway heading south, and then suddenly you're stuck behind a big rig for miles. We’ve got to get back to that winning rhythm. The mood is definitely a bit deflated, but as true Ducks fans, we know this team has fight. We always do.
