This is it, Buffalo. Tonight is our night.
You know, walking down Elmwood this morning, grabbing a coffee at Spot, the air just felt different. It ain't that nervous energy we used to get, not after last year. Nah, this is a hum. People are talking playoffs, not "if" but "when," and honestly, it’s about damn time. The Sabres are playing the Montréal Canadiens tonight, and usually, that's a rivalry that gets everyone riled up. But today, it’s almost like the Canadiens are just another stepping stone. It's not cockiness, not really. It’s just… earned confidence. You see it in the eyes of folks waiting for the bus down on South Park, you hear it in the conversations at the Tim Hortons drive-thru on Delaware. We’ve been through too much to get here to get jumpy now.
Everyone's just buzzing about how much this team has grown. Remember when we were talking about trade rumors every other week? Now, the big discussion is about who's gonna score the game-winner and what our chances are to really make a deep run. You hear people bringing up how Tage Thompson is just on another level, or how our defense, which used to give me agita, is finally clicking. Even my cousin, who’s lived on the West Side her whole life and swore off the Sabres for a decade, she texted me this morning. She said, "Peg, I got my jersey out of storage." That’s how you know it’s real. This team is making believers out of the most weathered among us. We are finally here. Let's Go Buff-a-lo!
Let's Go Buff-a-lo — from the City of Good Neighbors, this is Peg.
You gotta hear Keith and the gang talk about this every morning – tune in live at mornings.live.
